Pre/Peri/Post Natal Program

The purpose of the Pre/Peri/Post Natal Program is to evaluate and address postural deficits, establish an individualized stretching and strengthening program, and educate on activities safe to participate in during pregnancy. Changing and lifting infants after abdominal muscles are compromised is very difficult for women who are recovering from C-sections. Regular exercise during pregnancy and/or prenatal therapy, can help a woman prepare for labor and delivery by increasing core muscle strength and stamina. Preventative measures can reduce the risk of pregnancy complications and can speed recovery.

Research from the National Center for Biotechnology (NCBI) reports 80% of pregnant women experience low back pain as well as hip pain. Available data support the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommendations that promote exercise during pregnancy.

Pre/Peri/Post Natal Treatment:

  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Supervised therapeutic exercise
  • Postural assessment and body mechanics
  • Instruction for lifting and carrying
  • Physical therapy modalities

Lymphedema Program
Many people experience lymphedema--the buildup of protein rich lymphatic fluid in an extremity causing swelling, pain, and limitation in function. The certified lymphedema specialists at Bethesda will insure that you understand and learn how to manage this chronic condition and regain function. Free consultations are available.
