Why is a sleep study necessary?

A sleep study helps identify the reason you are sleeping too much, too little or at inappropriate times. Once identified, appropriate treatment and changes in lifestyle may be prescribed.

 

Who has sleep disorders?

Anyone can have a sleep disorder. Bethesda accepts adults and children 3 years of age and older.

 

Can I stay with my child?

Yes, one parent is required to stay with the child during the entire sleep study.

 

Can I continue to take my medications?

Yes, unless directed otherwise by your physician.

 

Can I go to work after the test?

Yes. A private room is provided for your test, and towels and soap are available in the restroom.

 

How long does the test take?

Once you've checked in for your sleep study, the therapist will monitor you for the next five to six hours while you sleep. Generally, you are awakened by 5:30 a.m., and you may leave shortly thereafter.
