Baby Care Basics: Newborn Care and Comfort ($10)
Although babies don’t come with an instruction manual, we can share some helpful information about caring for your newborn! The Baby Care Basics class covers a variety of topics such as diapering, feeding, bathing and soothing baby. Parents will feel more confident and ready to take home their newest family member.
Taught by a certified lactation professional, this class will help parents make informed decisions about feeding their baby. This class covers the health benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, comfort latch and positioning techniques and receive guidance on using a breast pump. In addition, parents can learn about resources for support and assistance, strategies for working moms and other tips for success. Both parents are encouraged to attend.
During this three week course, parents will learn about the physical and emotional changes associated with pregnancy and birth. The class will cover the birth experience, including pain control and comfort techniques, medical interventions and post birth care. In addition, learn strategies to help you plan for and navigate through your birth experience.
This one-day class packs much of the information provided in the three-week childbirth education series into one convenient day. Parents will learn about birth, comfort techniques, pain control options and medical interventions as well as post birth care. Class includes several breaks, including a break for lunch; however lunch is not provided.
Becoming a big brother or big sister is a big deal! This informative and fun class is designed especially for children ages 2 to 6 (older children are also welcome). Each child will decorate a onesie for their little brother or sister as they learn about their new role and the baby joining your family. Class ends with a birthday cupcake to celebrate the upcoming big day. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Cost is for one child. Additional siblings from the same family may attend for $5 each. Space is limited so sign up early.
The Safe Baby class is designed for new and expectant parents, as well as others who care for babies to increase awareness of safe practices and what to do in the event of an emergency. Topics include safe sleep and injury prevention from birth through 12 months of age. In addition, participants will see a demonstration of infant CPR and have an opportunity to practice proper techniques with the guidance of an experienced instructor.
La Leche League Breastfeeding Support Group meets the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Clayton Conference Center at Bethesda Hospital East. Call 561-649-8938 for more information.
The TEACUP Preemie Program provides resources and support for families with a premature infant in the NICU. Support groups are held the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Parent Education Center located in the Mother Baby Unit at Bethesda Hospital East. Bethesda Health is proud to host this class designed for first time fathers. This men-only class gives soon-to-be-dads an insiders view of fatherhood from those in the know.
