Breast Tomosynthesis (3D Mammography)

Bethesda Women’s Health Center is one of the first women’s centers in Florida to offer 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) for breast cancer screening. This exciting technology is FDA approved. Bethesda Women’s Health Center is using the Selenia® Dimensions® breast tomosynthesis system made by Hologic, a world leader in digital mammography. This system offers exceptionally sharp breast images, an advanced ergonomic design providing more patient comfort, and the groundbreaking tomosynthesis platform designed to deliver superior screening and diagnostic performance.

How Does Breast Tomosynthesis Work?

Breast tomosynthesis produces a three-dimensional view of the breast tissue that helps radiologists identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue. During a tomosynthesis exam, multiple, low-dose images of the breast are acquired at different angles. These images are then used to produce a series of one-millimeter thick slices that can be viewed as a 3D reconstruction of the breast.

C-View™ Software

Bethesda Women's Health uses the newest technology to produce 2D and 3D images with only one exposure. Our new C-View software reduces the patient's radiation dose and time under compression. Combined 2D and 3D mammogram with C-View software is superior to 2D alone for all breast types, improving diagnostic accuracy while also reducing patient recalls.
