Women's Continence Program
A Common Problem
More than ten million women of all ages are affected by incontinence. Many find it necessary to alter their activities to avoid embarrassing situations. The good news: There is a solution.
Types of Incontinence
Stress incontinence, the most common form, is leakage of urine that occurs during normal activity such as coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercising, which may place pressure on the bladder.
Urge incontinence is another common form and occurs when the brain signals the bladder to empty although it may really contain only a small amount of urine. Often, both stress and urge incontinence occur together. This can be very frustrating and difficult for an active woman to manage.
Non-Surgical Treatment is Available
There is non-surgical treatment available for urinary incontinence. There is no need to feel that you have to "live with it." With appropriate medical assistance, it is possible to improve or even cure incontinence. This is true even if you have already had surgery for incontinence, but still have leakage.
The Women's Continence Program established by Bethesda Rehabilitation is designed for active women of all ages who are concerned about incontinence limiting their lifestyle.
